First contact cover letters:

  • It is also known as Cold-Contact, Introduction and Broadcast Letter.
  • Most people rather to use this type as the last option because it has many things against the applicant.
  • This type is used when the employer or company posted advertisements with no mention of specific positions so the applicant must start the negotiation for a job.
  • Its function is to serve as introduction of the skills and resume of the applicant, hopping to reach the employer at the moment he/she is looking for someone like you.
  • However, this type is not so efficient because of its non effective process that must follow: reach the employer and wait until he/she read it, keep it, and finally contact you.
  • The average chance of getting a job interview is from 2% to 20% for facing many obstacles like a stressed hiring department, the position would not exist for you, your skills does not match with their needs, etc.

Targeted cover letters:

  • It is also called Ad-Response Letter and Job-Specific Letter.
  • Opposite to Introduction Letters, this type is potentially more efficient for getting a job interview.
  • It is used when has been posted an advertisement with specific positions.
  • This type of letter is really effective emphasizing the applicant’s skills and experiences related with the job requirements, as well as, motivating the employer to consider the applicant as the perfect person for the job.

Recommendation cover letters:

  • It is also called as Network Letter, Referral Letter and Sponsor Letter.
  • This type is excellent for those applicants who have something in common with the company.
  • It is used when the applicant has been referred to the employer, company or some enterprise by some other person who is really reputable.
  • The average chance will be more when the applicant must mention that important person at the top of the letter, within the first paragraph.
  • Currently, due to the networking is the most used tool in giving job opportunities, a recommendation cover letter give the best chances to those who know and meet more referrers.

Report back cover letters:

  • It is also called as Follow-up Letter.
  • It results to be perfect when the applicant both posses a perfect wording and demonstrates determination and attention to detail enhancing the employer’s attention.
  • For effective answers, the applicants rather to use this letter after three or more days of the interview in order to show interest, to remark skills, and to thank the employer for the interview.
  • Not all applicants feel confident enough during the interview, which causes they forget or missed important skills and/or experiences. According to this, using this type of cover letter, the applicants take the opportunity to mention in some fresh and original way those misses, not repeating information from their first cover letter.
  • This type of letter is very useful because both the applicants increase their candidacy and make them more viable; and the employers can see the ambition and dedication of the applicants.
