Resume types



There are many types of resumes and when it would be necessary you will have to write one or update an old one. In harmony with the latest trends, most employers still use the resume process selection because it is an important tool for searching a successful job seeker in every field.

However, a resume alone will not do the entire job, but it will and would help you to get that important interview.

Before you decide which resume type to use, it will be an easier decision if you understand and learn more about the disadvantages and advantages of each format. Plus, remember that a resume is both the important document used for those seeking employment and the basic tool to summarize your aptitudes, knowledge, experience, training and skills.

So that, you need to create your resume format according to your background, job type and the career you are seeking. There are nine types of resumes, and each with a specific style:

  • Chronological resume
    • Chronological resumes highlight the progression in any career advancement being easy to understand and to read it; this is the reason why it is the most accepted and preferred format by the hiring authorities.

  • Functional resume
    • This type of resume is focused on the goals, accomplishments and skills of the applicants. Commonly, a functional resume does not include names of the companies, dates of employment or position titles.

  • Combination resume
    • This type of resume combines the chronological resume with the functional resume, in order to emphasize the most important both experiences and skills of the applicants.

  • Targeted resume
    • This type of resume is focused on your specific career objective for a specific company and field. So that, all the content is adapted into your position requirements.

  • Curriculum Vitae resume
    • Similar to the Chronological resume type, a Curriculum Vitae (CV) contains almost all information about the applicant according to his/her profession; including board memberships, hospital affiliations, presentations, research, publications, etc.

  • Networking resume
    • This type of resume is important to emphasize the most important key achievements of the applicants; however, it also lists information about Work History and Education in one-line-list. According to the job seeker, it also includes their descriptive profile.

  • Mini resume
    • This type of resume is mainly a synopsis of whole applicant’s information including their industry-specific knowledge, career achievements, important qualifications and credentials.

  • Federable resume
    • This type of resume is specifically geared towards federal positions; plus, according to the job offers, it is used as a second alternative instead of the standard federal application OF-612.

  • Scannable resume
    • This type of resume is mainly used to be in direct contact eye with the employers. Despite most applicants rather to send it as an attachment in the e-mail, it would be better to send in the body of the e-mail.
